The Kids are Gone, The Dog has Passed, So Why Not Now?

She’s back! Hello, dear readers. As you know, I have been on a hiatus from my blog. So much has happened. Some of it is downright head spinning!

First, we have lived in our home for over 30 years, and we have decided to move. Not move just anywhere but move to a retirement community. This decision did not come easily! In fact, it has been gut wrenching to say the least. Some friends have said that we are crazy. Some have said that it is a wonderful choice. Quite frankly, it is a bit of both.

We love our home, and we have it just how we like it, as the saying goes. But here is the thing…the weeds are winning because I can’t stay ahead of them anymore (cranky knees), the house repairs are harder to complete because it is more difficult to bend down…and stay down, cooking has become a chore instead of a creative activity and for some odd reason, the vacuum cleaner gets heavier and heavier each time I drag it out of the closet to clean. I am done! And I’m a senior! I have put in my time, and I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it. Selfish? Maybe.

However, the kids are on their own, the dog has passed to doggie heaven and my feet do not like standing in line for groceries anymore.

It is finally time for us. And none too soon!

As I said, I’m no spring chicken and if not now, when?

So off we go to a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). One that is on the Chesapeake Bay with two pools, personal trainers, three restaurants, weekly apartment cleaning, on site medical care when needed, lectures, classes, entertainment, an art studio, etc., etc. Woo hoo! Free at last! So, if that is being selfish, bring it on!

Additionally, a very close family member has had a serious medical problem that made me think twice…and three times…about just how much time we all have on this beautiful planet. Again, if not now, when?

So, my dear readers, I’m back! I’m energized to begin this new life adventure. Although it is not easy to move out of my comfort zone, once the move is complete, the boxes are removed, the few dishes I have are put away, I expect to let someone else clean and cook while I sit on the Chesapeake Bay with a good book, take a class in something exciting but easy, and say a prayer of thanksgiving.

We’ll chat again next month. In the meantime, enjoy life to the fullest!

Happy Aging,

Sue

One More Thought . . .

The number one fear of seniors is outliving their money; no matter how much they have.
